Frequently Asked Questions

How do I activate SimControlX Pro?

SimControlX Pro is activated by applying the serial key you receive in your email after a purchase, to your SimControlX Server software. Activation and periodic license checks are performed over your internet connection.

Once activated, the license is attached to the computer you performed the activation on. If you wish to move a license, it must be deactivated on the machine you’re currently using *before* activating the same key on a new machine.

The activation / deactivation procedure is detailed in our manual found on our downloads page. For any licensing issues please contact support(at)simcontrolx.com.

Why does my computer say this software could harm my computer?

Due to the nature of how Windows handles security, it is common for newly released applications to experience false warnings about security. Depending upon many factors such as your version of Windows, OS, and other security programs and filters, you may get this message or you may not. Regardless, our software download will not harm your computer. Please follow the steps to install the program found in our manual available on our downloads page.

My computer/flight simulator says “unavailable” next to it on the SimControlX connections page and I can’t click on it to connect.

Ensure the SimControlX Server software is running on your computer/flight simulator and that you have chosen the correct program (P3D version 3 or 4, X-Plane 10 or 11) then click connect to simulator. If you have already done this, please close the SimControlX app (double-click the Home button on the iPad, swipe “up” on the SimControlX app preview to close it completely) then reopen SimControlX app and reconnect to your simulator. You can also disconnect, then reconnect to the simulator on the SimControlX Server program window on your computer, but will still need to reconnect on the “connections” page of the app. You should now be able to select your computer on the connection page of SimControlX app.

What area does the map cover?

The map only has continental USA, Alaska and Hawaii IFR enroute charts. (FAA PUB)

Please note that these charts are NOT guaranteed to always be up-to-date and are for simulator use ONLY. For real world navigation please use official sources.

Why doesn’t my airport appear on the map page/chart?

We use IFR enroute charts on the map page and by nature these IFR enroute charts publish only airports with an instrument approach procedure(IAP), or airports without IAPs having hard surface runways longer than 3000ft. Therefore, certain small airports or private/restricted airports will not be depicted. If you reposition to an airport that shows you over a white area on the map page instead of at a depicted airport, it is likely because that airport is not published on the IFR enroute chart, however, you will still get the proper visual and will still be flying the correct area on the map.

With SimControlX connected, can I still use the weather scenarios or failures on the flight sim program I’m using?

Yes, you can set weather or failures or airports on the flight sim program and SimControlX will adapt to the changes, however they may not reflect in the button on the app page (i.e. if you fail the AI from within the flight sim program not the app, the AI failure button may still say working). You can override the failures or weather set by the computer by resetting it from SimControlX.

I changed the time on the weather page (or pressed “Set Noon” or “Set Midnight”) but the visual did not change.

After you scroll to the time you wish to set manually, or press “Set Noon” or “Set Midnight” you must press the button in blue to the right of the time selector that says “Change Time” for the visual to update.

SimControlX doesn't load or display my X-Plane 11 aircrafts?

The aircraft directory organization changed from X-Plane 10 to X-Plane 11. SimControlX expects that users organize any third-party aircraft directories using the following format options, in keeping with how Laminar Research provides their default aircraft –

<X-Plane 11 base directory>/Aircraft/<Category or Publisher Name>/<Third-Party Aircraft folder>

Alternatively, you may put all your third party aircraft in a single directory.

<X-Plane 11 base directory>/Aircraft/My Third Party Aircrafts/<Third-Party Aircraft folder>

After organizing your third-party aircrafts, simply click “Reload Aircraft” on the Server software to rebuild the aircraft database. SimControlX should now display your aircraft on the aircraft page.

X-Plane Does Not Respond Properly

In most cases, this is because X-Plane is working in the background to load relevant changes according to your input, such as loading a new aircraft or airport. All you have to do is wait for X-Plane to finish loading and you can continue flying.
